Teatro Colon

The Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires is one of the world's major opera houses, in is located by the extremely wide 9 de Julio Avenue. The italian architect Francesco Tamburini and his pupil, Vittorio Meano designed a theatre in the tipical eclectic style of the end of XIX century. The building was completed in 1908 under the direction of the Belgium architect Julio Dormal and the theatre opened on 25 May 1908 with a performance of Verdi’s Aida. The cupola contains frescoes painted in 1966 by the renowned 20th century artist Raúl Soldi during renovation work.
