Kordegarda is a subsection of Zachęta National Gallery of Art. It is located in the building of the former coach-house of the historic Potocky Palace (now the site of the Ministry of Culture), on Warsaw’s principal tourist route: the Royal Way
The museum boasts the largest Polish scholarly library of art catalogues, art history books, books on cultures of almost all over the world, and a fine collection of old maps and prints. 1995 marked the beginning of the reorganization of the National Museum. The Faras Gallery has given rise to the new Collection of East Christian Art, also embracing Byzantine art. The opening of new permanent galleries, the Gallery of Italian Painting and a reorganized Gallery of Ancient Art, was realized in 2000.
Zachęta National Gallery of Art is the oldest exhibition site in Warsaw, with a tradition stretching back to the mid 19th Century. Its primary current mission is the presentation and promotion of contemporary art. Zachęta organizes individual and group exhibitions of Polish and overseas artists, as well as theme exhibitions , about 30 exhibitions a year.
